Another super excluded!
It is a fork of the PCSX2 emulator to emulate arcade systems based on the architecture of the PlayStation 2, namely System 246, System 256 and Super System 256. Eventually, the project could also support systems 147 and 148, as well as the Konami Python 1 and Python 2 platforms and their Bemani variants (More info here).
This is an experimental fork of the PCSX2 emulator, developed to support Namco’s arcade systems based on the PlayStation 2 architecture. While PCSX2 is primarily designed for the emulation of the home console, this branch adapts and expands its operation in order to reproduce the specific hardware of the arcade terminals derived from the PS2.
The mainly targeted systems are the Namco System 246, Namco System 256 and Namco Super System 256, arcade platforms widely used in the 2000s. These maps are based on an architecture very close to that of the PlayStation 2, but integrate various additional components intended for operation in the arcade: dedicated input/output interfaces, security systems, specific media readers and devices specific to certain games.
It is also likely that the fork can, eventually or partially, support System 147 and System 148 systems, which also share technical links with the PlayStation 2 hardware ecosystem. However, the actual level of compatibility with these platforms remains poorly documented.
The main objective of this project is to enable the execution and preservation of arcade games developed for these systems, reusing the important code base and the knowledge accumulated around PCSX2. This approach avoids developing an entirely new emulator while benefiting from the improvements made over the years to the emulation of the Emotion Engine processor, the Graphics Synthesizer graphics processor and the various coprocessors of the PlayStation 2.
Among the iconic games associated with these systems include the Tekken series (from Tekken 4), SoulCalibur II, SoulCalibur III: Arcade Edition, Time Crisis 3, Time Crisis 4, Battle Gear, The Idolmaster or several productions of Namco, Capcom and Banpresto developed during the 2000s.
