Which one is better:
an ATI Radeon 8500LE or a GeForce4 MX440? I can get these two cards at the same price but I don't know which one is better.

OK. I'll be getting that then. Haven't been doing my research on ATI cards that much so that's why I asked.

Nope!

Wrong, the Radeon 8500LE is betta that a GeForce3, but never betta than a GeForce4. The one betta than a GeForce4 is the Radeon 9700 or whatever

:sleepy: Do some research. Get the 8500LE, NOT the 440 MX.

/me slaps david_hayter

speak english clearly and actually address the question like your not in 5th grade!! sorry to be blunt, but he needs help between 2 video cards, not 4...

2bzy4ne1:
ATI over nvidia for those cards, 8500LE beats the 440mx if my memory serves me correct, www.anandtech.com should provide enough information to help you some where on the website;)

It's not just about beating it in benchmarks, but also about feature support.
GF 4 440 MX = DX7 card
Radeon 8500LE = DX 8.1 card

believe me, if I could I would get a geforce4 ti4200 but I can't spend over $100 for the vid card. My budget won't allow it because if I get the cheapest ti4200, it will go over my budget. The cheapest ones I can find are at least over $110. I can get either the geforce4 mx440 or the radeon 8500LE for $72 which is a very good bargain compared to what these cards cost normally in stores.

As I said above i would personally go with the 8500LE.

If you want a card that will last for a while look at the radeon 9500 (directx 9) series, or if you want something a little cheaper a gf4 ti 4400 (directx 8)would be good.

is a radeon 9000 (non pro) better than a ti4200?
whats the nearest nvidia's card in performance?
A Radeon 9000 is on par with a geforce4 mx series but not with a geforce4 ti4200.

Performance wise yes, feature wise it is slightly ahead of the gf4 ti series in fact. Ati card nearest to ti 4200 would be radeon 8500, as the 9000 is slightly slower than that.

I think i found out why I can't get a geforce4 ti4200. The mobo I am looking to get is very expensive. I should find a much cheaper one so I can make room for one. ^_^
