processor question

If I buy a retail athlon xp processor and use a different hsf with it, would that void the warranty? lain:

No, it wouldn't, as long as its an althlon XP cooling fan design it will not void the waranty, now if you try to use a hsf designed for a different processor then there is no guaruntee, but you are allowed to chose your own heat sink and fan provided it is made for that processor/speed.

AMD maintains a list of recommended HSFs. Of course, just because a particular model isn't on the list doesn't mean it won't work, but this is a good place to start.

Yeah, well that list is stupid, they tell you not to use the orb fans either, but my Dragon orb works fine.

You dont really need to use that list, just check random hardware sites and read reviews to find one you would want^_^

Like I said, it's just a starting point. I didn't choose my Dr. Thermal because AMD recommends it (which they don't).

BTW, this is the hsf I want to get. I was originally looking at an Alpha heatsink, but that thing looks so big that it won't fit on the board I want. So I decided on the Vantec AeroFlow VA4-C7040. It can keep things cool, looks nice, and is quiet.

Nah! Just get a GeForce FX and use it's fan for the CPU.

It is an idea. ¿Might work?
