Ogre Battle 64 - one crippling problem

Hi,
I'm a noob at using n64 emulators, so i was hoping someone could help me...i'm using project 64 1.5 w/default plugins and default settings (only difference is i'm using nforce's controller plugin). ob64 seems to run perfectly...smooth, everything looks just like the console...except for when entering new zones. The screen that says 'scene 1' or whatnot with the eagle standard and water effects just brings my system to its knees and eventually freezes the game. I haven't been able to find a way around this problem and i was hoping someone could help. One note - the only thing that shows up on the 'scene' screen is the eagle standard, ripple effects and the number 1. No words show up at all.

system specs:
athlon 950 mhz processer (tbird)
asus a7v mboard
asus v7700 64 meg ram geforce 2 card, running latest det. drivers
sblive
running under win2k

Thanks in advance,
Laz

I have had the same problem, you can avoid a very long hang by pressing buttons on the controller as soon as the screen comes up, and you should only have a 30-40 second wait, for kind of obvious reasons.

I would like to know if anyone has been up to the 7th or 8th battle at the Gunther Mines and has had the following problem. The rom I use is GOOD, etc, and my PJ64 setup is standard, but at the end of the final Gunther Mines battle there is a 'Graphics Plug-in error shown below. It differs depending on the video plugin being used, but in all plugins is causes a fatal error. There is a work-around, but seems to be a tricky problem because of the way all of the video plugins I use are affected, just in a different way. Of course it could just be me.

if you have a problem with all video plugins its probably a core error, try using R4k interpreter at that point, then back off to see what the problem is e.g. SMCM, Reg Cache, etc.

Octopazz,

I am at Scene 24 and don't have the problem that you mentioned.
For jabo directsound, I do not check sync. Seems to be working just fine and if it is too slow, just press F4 - kind of speed up a little.

The one and only
i get that problem as well. but for those few scenes like that it takes almost a minute on my computer. i have an athlonxp 1800+. i used to have the black background problem in project 1.5 beta. but now in 1.5 final every single background is the castle interior background. i get no other. but otherwise the game runs absolutly perfect. i can live with the same background over and over, the game runs perfect otherwise.

btw grrrrreaaat job on 1.5 final. i have had NO crashes or errors since installing it on any game.

Thanks for all the responses - i'm able to get past the scene screens now and actually play, but i've run into the problem of not having a background for the battles. From browsing the forums it seems there is no way around this - or am i wrong?

My setting :

800x600x32 100Hz
Jabo DirectD6 v1.5 - Transfer Memory
Jabo DirectSound v1.5 - sync game to audio (not check)
Jabo DirectInput7 v1.5

None of the advanced options check

I experienced the scene 1 slow down as well. I just used rice's unnoficial deadalus plugin to get by it at a decent speed, then switched back again. and i haven't found a way to get rid of the black backrounds, unfortunately.

Problem with GFX plugins

I've encountered a problem in the GFX plugins while playing later in the game (near the end actually) I Have a save state that shows the problem but I can't upload it since it's 1mb big zipped.
If any important ppl (smiff, jabo, anyone else?) wants to try it i'll gladly send it to you If It doesn't happen to you while trying it, for me it bugs with Jabo's 1.5 and 1.4 and Rice's unofficial plugin...

Now for the problem it shows an error while the final battle goes and this error goes on when the battle actually start (after the dialogs) and stop right after you win the battle (Yes I said ok to the error to see how far I could get ;) and I finally got to the point where the error was gone and I could save :colgate: )

I also get black screens instead of backgrounds in battle most of the time (but that's not the point here ;P )

My specs for my video card is a TNT2 Ultra with the 30.82 detonators but I don't think that's the problem since it's the first time I encounter that and I don't have problems with other games that I've tried and I tried alot. Some other problem is the pausing for 1 or 2 seconds that a lot of people seem to get and the texture loading seems to be slow(buggy?) when the GFX is needed and can cause slowdown at some places (like on the main map) (at least for me). All that using Jabo's 1.5 GFX plugin. Oh yeah BTW i'm always using default settings.

anyway Good Job! with :pj64: and keep up the good work!

I have the same problem with Orge Battle and black backbackgrounds in the battle scene. Has anyone got this fixed or working? Is their a solution or do we have to wait for new releases?

The access violation error? I managed to get past it with 1964 openGl plug, and now everything is fine. Just before the access violation you might want to save, swap plugs to the 1964 plug called 4.1.0, get past the text or the problem, and I had to save it absolutely immediately after the text had gone because it crashed if it made it to the world map, and then swap back to Jabo's and continue. Out of all the plugins available, that was the only one that didn't come up with an AV of its own -although on my system it can't run any other part of the game without crashing.

Hope that helps.

in response to the beggining problem, all you have to do is go to options, settings, option, and make sure that the hide advance setting is unchecked. Then when at the part when it says scene one hit f4 and when its done hit f4 again. (or u can click system and uncheck limit fps, and when the part is done check it again). It worked for me. As for the black background problem, I have found no solution.

Edit: Now that I think about, some movie scenes have backgrounds, and some dont.
