NRage Input Plugin V2.00 BETA (an overhaul)

The shortcut for "Mem <-> Rumble" does not seem to work correctly. It can only switch to the rumble pak like once or twice, but never, for me, after that. And yes, I am unplugging the pak before hitting the shortcut to "switch". It just always gets stuck on the mem pak. It works fine if I use the seperate shortcuts for them, but I'm trying to make it easier. Does anyone else have this problem or do you know why this might be? This happens on various emus, games, etc so I don't believe the problem to be external.

I don't think you need to unplug the pak before telling the emulator to switch. Unless you're talking about the Adaptoid, then you actually have a physical something to switch. In which case, use the "Adaptoid pak" in the future but I don't think it's working right now. I don't think even "rumble pak" setting is working with Adaptoid even though is uses ForceFeedback. I think rabiddeity might be overthinking things a bit when it comes to the Adaptoid.

The games don't recognize anything unless you "unplug" the pak, so you do have to do that no matter what from my experience.

And another thing I wanted to bring up while I'm here. I saw the little blurp about this in the readme, but I wanted to see if there's any chance the "show messages" option can work better. I forget whose fault it it, but basically this option does not work with Glide64 or Rice's plugin(opengl mode or DX). It only works with Jabo's and only in windowed mode. I remember that had regressed a bit since 1.83 and was wondering if that really usefull feature can be fixed up. That was one of things the added in ePSXe 1.7 and it's helpful.

Actually, I think it depends on the game. I have used that "switch" feature on Top Gear Rally successfully every time. However, it doesn't seem to work on 40 Winks. It stays on the mempak, even though it said "switched to rumble pak" and in the controller config dialog it shows rumble selected. And the game will save even in these circumstances. That's odd. :S

Edit: it even stays on that one mempak if I close and open the emulator, if I CHANGE the mempak that's supposed to be in there, or if I switch to rumble manually before starting emulation.

Try Beetle Racing, that's the best example. This game do not see the pak change until it is unplugged.

Boot Beetle with the rumble pak installed, hit the switch. Do vice versa. What are the results?

Good work P. It is game dependant - I wonder if there's anyway to fix that. So far Beetle, San fran rushs and 40 winks require you unplug and then insert the appropiate pak. Otherwise the game won't detect it. But a bunch others DO use the switch just fine. Good to know.

I loaded Beetle Adventure Racing with a controller pak inserted, it worked. I switched to rumble pak for the race, and that worked. But it won't let me switch back to controller pak to save data after the race. This one is a puzzle indeed. :S

You should try Top Gear Rally. See what that one does for you. Be warned- it takes up an entire damn memory card, so just make another one.

its not hard to fix, iirc this was fixed in a few games awhile back by increasing a pak init time out or something... it probably just needs to be increased a bit more.

I kinda know what's going on and I think this to be a bug with Nrage. Alot games work fine with the whole "switching" system. BUT on a few games (Beetle, San fran, etc) there's something wrong. Basically what I'm seeing is that with these few titles, once you switch to something, it won't switch back. And if you start these titles with a pak, you have to "unplug" and then "switch" (most of the time) to get the game to recognize a change has occured. But once you do that, again it doesn't cycle to the other pak.

Here's some scenerios:
Boot San Fran rush (i'm using 2 but all should be the same) with rumble pak
select race, create player, you'll see the controller pak status screen - it shows a rumble pak inserted. Hit the "switch", nothing happens, game doesn't recognize it. Now unplug, UI changes, press the shortcut for the "switch", mem pak shows up, unplug again, and press switch it'll just go back to the mem pak and not the rumble pak. You can never get rumble pak again with the switch. Even in gameplay, nothing is different. But you can unplug and press the shortcut for just the rumble pak and it'll work immediately, but hitting switch does nothing - because it keeps going to the mempak. It's not cycling properly or something.

Boot Beetle with a rumble pak, when prompted for a mempak, press switch, nothing happens. Now press the shortcut for unplug, then switch, it'll go to the mempak just like SFrush. When prompted to insert the rumble pak before the race, you can either try to unplug and hit switch or just try switching. When the race begins, no rumble, just like SF. And again, you can select unplug and press the shortcut for just the rumble pak and it'll work immediately, but hitting switch does nothing - keeps on going to the mempak.

Well, remember, I had problems even though I tried switching the paks manually. It didn't even work when I used the unplug shortcut. It kept on thinking there was a mempak. But I'm willing to try this fix before pushing that further.

Also, Legend, you do know there is an "edit post" button, right?

Yes, but people keep on posting while I'm writing and its just alot easier to reply to them with quotes in another post. I've already spent alot of time on this, trying to salvage my weekend here...

Edit:
Looks like Space Invaders is another title that does support the rumble pak but due to either the plugin or the emu, there's no vibration at all no matter what. That's like 4 or 5 now, I wonder what the problem is. :(

What's the deal with the rapid-fire? Why is there a checkbox and slider on the main controls tab, when rapid fire is handled in the modifiers tab and there's a "slow down" checkbox in there too?

Hell, I'd do it if I knew what I needed. What compiler, etc. is used for this? There's no reason rabiddeity should have to do everything himself. Plus I still need to not have to mash an axis before it presses a button.

"There's no reason rabiddeity should have to do everything himself. "

Speaking of...Koolsmoky just released 2.1 RC1+ which allows the "Show Messages" option to work correctly with Glide64 not only in windowed, but fullscreen as well!!

Here's the link to the thread at the Glide64 forums with the modified version.
http://www.emuxhaven.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6825

It works magnificently! This is a really nice much needed addition to this plugin. Hopefully Rab can incorporate it in the next version. As you can see from my posting there, there is one bug for me which is that the "pak" text is in Japanese. But that should be easy to change.

Legend, that thing you wanted in RC2 isn't likely to happen without a good look at the changes, they seem to break text completely on most roms, i was only able to get the text to be visible once. infact it seems to be pulling text to display by random

it even showed the plugins directory location at one point.
