N64 video plugin help for everybody

The decent one
I've noticed that there are many people who are asking which video-plugin they should use. Of course you have the right to ask this question since there are so many advantages and disadvantages in video plugins, so please refer to this thread if someone asks this again. Note: "supported" hardware doesn't mean the plugin is 100% compatible with this card, it just means that it looks decent.

Jabo's d3d6 1.5(.1):

Advantages: - Very fast with most games
- High compatibility
- Compatible with most video cards

Disadvantages: - Sometimes bad texture and font scaling
- A bit outdated when looking at other plugins (no special fixes for motion blur etc.)
- Beside filtered rendering no extra filters (like scale2x)

Supported video hardware: Nvidia Riva TNT and newer, Ati Radeon series, Matrox G400 and newer, voodoo 3 and up.

Rice's daedalus 5.4.3b:

Advantages: - High compatibility
- Extra scaling options
- Frameskip for the slower computers
- Contains many fixes for several games and videocards

Disadvantages: - Results may vary on different systems

Supported video hardware: Nvidia Geforce 256 and newer, Ati Radeon series, Matrox Parhelia, voodoo 3 and up (2 may be supported too?).

Glide64 0.5:

Advantages: - ULTRA high speed on voodoo cards
- Many extra fixes and options
- A good plugin special for the voodoo users
- Will work much better with old video cards than other plugins (by using evoodoo)

Disadvantages: - Some games which are supported by many other plugins won't work with this one
- If you aren't using a voodoo card, the speed and the gfx is very dependent of your current video card and the eVoodoo version (of course this is an evoodoo problem and not a Glide64 problem)

Supported video hardware: All 3dfx cards, and when using evoodoo any card which supports directx6 (nearly all 3d video hardware with 8 mb or more).

Glnintendo() 0.4.1

Advantages: - Extra scaling options
- Supported right by both Ati and Nvidia cards

Disadvantages: - Sometimes ridiculously slow in the higher resolutions
- Small errors in many games

Supported video hardware: Nvidia geforce 256 and up, Ati radeon and newer, Matrox parhelia and newer, voodoo 3 and newer

TR64 opengl 0.8.8:

Advantages: - Good graphics quality

Disadvantages: - A bit slower than the other plugins
- GFX bugs
- Sometimes hard to find out which ucode to use (since the autodetect doesn't work completely)

Supported video hardware: Nvidia Geforce 256 and newer, Ati radeon and newer (may be buggy sometimes), Matrox G400 and newer (?), voodoo 4 & 5.

The plugins I just mentioned are the mainstream of the most users. Of course there are many (very good) other plugins like Ultrahle gfx but they just aren't used by the most people.

I (or probably another mod) will update this thread if there is a new plugin release.

Update 11/03/2004 by Vleespet:

Added TR64 opengl 0.8.8 and added "supported video hardware".
