Mandrake Linux 9 is finally released, available as ISO download!

The network traffic bandwidth is currently really jammed  .

I got a speed of about 4kb/s.....
Man, let me wait for another mirror :rasta: .

There's rumor around that Red Hat Linux 8 will be coming on Monday.
Two distros within one week? Looks like it's a good test (and stress) of web traffic.

LFS is really good I tried that. It's hard but you get to make your own distro. Really cool. You can completly decide what to install on your pc and what not to :D

You are welcomed :) .

Red Hat 8 is also released.
Again I better wait for a better mirror to download the ISOs.

Finished downloading Mandrake 9 already, now it's time to backup my data and try. :)

EDIT: There's a review of Red Hat Linux 8 over the OSnews.com website, check it out:

Here's another informative review of Mandrake Linux 9 over here:

1. Mandrake 9.0 First Impressions
http://www.ratedpc.com/review.asp?id=63

The author seems to be very well-informed about various desktop configuration issues: including font setup, theme modification and installing drivers. The screenshots he posted look very good and professional; obviously he had done some serious tweaking and customization which (in my opinion) provide such a consistent feel and pleasure outlook.

I am actually even more impressed with his another article:

2. Linux On Desktop (highly recommended)
http://www.ratedpc.com/article.asp?id=59

Beware, it is a long read with 21 pages.

Also, for the absolute Linux beginner, the article linked to a demo walkthru of Mandrake 9 installation process over here:

3. Mandrake 9 Installation online demo
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/Demo/Mandrake9.0/Install/

In any case, I hope you guys find the articles useful and helpful in your journey towards Linux.

Anyone ever try Winlinux 2001?
Turbolinux?
Caldera Linux?
Just wondering...
I have no experience with any of them.

Haven't tried any of that.
I am still using Mandrake Linux 8.2. But I would like to upgrade to KDE 3 and try some Aqua (Mac OS X style) theme for my desktop.

My first Linux distro (if you can actually call it a distro) was WinLiinux. It setup up all your hardware and such, restarts your computer and boots into linux. Its slower then a regular distro because:
No Swap space
Moving all data on the HDD are in a HDD image file (very slow tranfer rate)
non-optimized kernel

But for a test its very good, mainly because you don't have to worry about speed, just how everything works. Think of WinLinux as a stripped down version of linux, with only basic appz installed.

NE ways, its good to get the feel of linux with out having to risk your data. Oh, you can't use it in WinXP/2k/NT, that was my mistake, sorry.

hey zero0w, i just installed the new mandrake 9.0, and after like three days of figuring stuff out, i got the mac osx theme and style for kde 3.0, and it is gorgeous. i would post a screenshot, but my res is to high, so the files are too big, and when i shrink down the image, it looks crappy. Buy, i'm sure you've seen other shots of it.
