Don't want to sound stupid, but out of curiousity how much power does the red light of the analog control stick emit? Left my PSX controller on last night and misses went off whinging about leaving appliances on standby and said it was contributing to the power bill...

Let me see LED's typically are set for 4ma (cheap LED and you don't need to put a red spot in someones eye with it) on those toys and are power by 5V (with droping resistor) so that comes out to be about 20mw. that means it could run off a AA alkaline cell for roughly 120 hours or 5days. HOWEVER if you left your PS2 on that consumes a LOT more. (~40W) I suggest you shut your toys off if you aren't using them :D I often download linux distro's and videos on over night bandwidth so my machine stays on all the time. Thank goodness I bought a better power supply that is efficient :D

I suggest to sate your missus you take the initiative and not be lazy. Get into good habits of turning things off automatically. It may anoy the heck out of her too (because I have to think before not locking a door or turning off a light now). It's easy to do and less expensive in the long run. I have 2 LCD monitors instead of CRT's (use to have a big 22" CRT) so when something gets old replace it with something more efficent. I know the bill for power when from 140 per month to 70 per month when I changed EVERY light bulb in the house. That paid for itself in 1 month. So she might of been upset over nothing however it's still silly to waste power.

If you're worried about the electricity bill, then I suggest you pull out the plugs from the electricity outlet when you're done (or use a remote switch to do it), since typically every applicance uses 1-2W even in standby and that typically adds up to a pretty high amount when all your unused appliances just stand in standby day and night long.

That's assuming the AA batteries have 2.4A, which is pretty accurate these days :)

Or you could do what i used to do when i lived in my flat. Have no lights on ever, bar occasionally using the kitchen light to cook (tv acts as main light source) night time turn every socket off.

Electric bill was 20euros a month

It's not advised though if you come home drunk (as i used to do) :p

I suppose you could use a portable LED light for main light source and reacharge it only when necessary! Think of all the money you would save from the electric bill!
