Can't delete files/folders

An idiot friend of mine downloaded a ton spyware/malware trough IE (he wasn't comfortable with Mozilla) by surfing the porn sites when I was gone. Anyway, I was able to remove most of it, but there are these folders/files that have weird text in the file names and I can't delete them. Some of the files are read-only. Windows Explorer can't do anything with them and I even tried using del *.* in pure DOS and that didn't work. Winfile also didn't work. Now when I run scandisc it just stalls out at some point because it doesn't know what to do with them. Any solutions?

Have you tried booting up in safe mode and then delete the file or folder? It worked for me once when I tried to delete a file name that was way too long.

I already tried that and it didn't work. And with the "weird text" in the file names I mean letters with accents on them, mathematical symbols, etc.

?????????????????????????
They seem to be corrupted files :plain:
You should probably run some check utility for these to correct those files.

Sounded like he tried Scandisk already but it hangs?

Maybe get yourself some bootable version of Linux (Knopix) and see if you can use it to get rid of the files? Problem here though is if those files are linked over other files segments you could waste more then you want by deleting them.
