Ray Harryhausen is the guy responsible for special effects in a lot of those 60's, 70's fantasy films. I'm not sure exactly which films, but things along the lines of Jason and the argonauts, Clash of the titans, The Sinbad films (you get the idea).

Ok, I concede that compared to the visual effects in films you get nowadays, they look a bit poor because the monsters were just models superimposed onto the films, but absolutely fuckin amazing at the time.

I think you have to be of a certain age to have appreciated how good they were
