[GC] How much of a game is actually the game?

What I mean when I play a game (gamecube only) I know that the disc itself (unmodified (in other words a factory fresh copy)) can hold about 1.5GB but how much of that space is actually the game itself and not anti-piracy related? also a followup question... can the anti-piracy mechanisms hinder the game itself (in other words take up to much space and hurt the game)?

Additional notes: Greetings from France! actually now I've moved to the US... (English is not my native language so beware...)

It depends on the game. Animal Crossing only uses about 400MB while Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess use around 1.3GB. Other games can be as small as 20MB or use the entire disc.

No. Why would they ruin their games on purpose? It's normal and doesn't affect anything. If they ever ran out of disc space, they could have added a second disc.

Alright... well lets say the game developer is just starting out and they are making a large game (in other words 2 discs). Wouldn't adding a second disc make the cost go up (making the games and distributing them)? granted at first thought one extra disc would not cost much but if you are planning on making a thousand of them (I don't know the exact numbers) it will surely make the cost go up to some degree.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. All GC games work fine as intended, so what's the point of this? It is what is and there are no issues.

A. To gain more knowledge on the console and games.
B. So I can know how many of my legally owned games I can facilitate on my computer.

EDIT: If there are any more questions for me go ahead. Unless you think that there is more to cover then I suppose the thread can be locked or just left alone.

The discs themselves cost pennies to produce. If the game costs $50, a two-disc game would probably sacrifice 0.5% of its gross revenue to the cost of manufacturing discs as opposed to 0.25% for a single-disc game.

No more so than the overall size of the medium itself. Whether or not such effects are noticable is another matter. Unless it's a port or multi-plat release, you wouldn't necessarily know what you're missing after all.

It was noticable in Skies of Arcadia. The quality of the music and sound effects is quite poor in the Gamecube port.

Fair enough but when you say they cost pennies to produce are we talking about a Gamecube disc? since the discs are smaller doesn't that make them slightly harder to produce and up the fee? or would the fee lower because it is half the size of a normal disc?

I've never played that game before... was the music quality issue the fault of the console or was there not enough space to fit HQ music? Or was it just a garbage port?

Why is my avatar gone? was it removed because it was inappropriate? or is it just me...

The music thing was a porting issue. The game was originally for another system and porting it to another system resulted in some sacrifices.

I'd imagine they may be slightly cheaper to produce than full-sized discs, due to requiring less raw materials. An 8cm disc doesn't have any technology added to it that would make it particularly more difficult to create than a 12cm disc. It's basically a 12cm disc with the outer rim cut off. Both types of disc are mass-produced.

Well, clearly the 'cube was more than capable of delivering high quality sound, so it was obviously a space issue. The game was originally released on two GDROMs.
