Two problems in Pokemon Snap...

No, this isn't another "I can't view the photos in my album" thread. I figured that one out already. This is about two other problems that haven't really been addressed:

1. PkMn signs aren't recognised by Professor Oak. Whenever I snap a picture of one, usually a question mark is supposed to appear next to it in the album, but Prof. Oak just says "There aren't any pokémon in this picture" and dismisses it.

2. Photo-related events can't be triggered in the courses. For example, if you snap Pikachu at the beginning of the Tunnel level, he's supposed to run onto Electrode. But no matter how many photos I take, the litte rat won't move! Likewise, Dugtrio is supposed to appear if you snap enough photos of Diglett, but I can spend my entire film roll without ever seeing Dugtrio.

Please help!!!

have you got the latest Project64 and RDB

i had the same problem as you are having with (1) and it was fixed in a new version.

problem 2 doesn't occur for me. are you sure your not meant to throw fruit or grenades or use the pokeflute?, those are the way photo related events are triggered afaik.

I don't know what RDB stands for, and I'm pretty sure you're supposed to photograph certain pokémon to trigger poses. I've tried apples, pester balls and the poké flute with no result anyway.

I just installed RDB v1.6.015 (the latest one) and it STILL hasn't fixed the PkMn sign problem. I fail to see the point of updating it in the first place, since there haven't been any new additions made to Pokémon Snap. And what about the photo-related events problem? Got any suggestions for that?

i've never had a photo related event occur by taking photos.

the only events i know of are caused by luring pokemon to certain places with apples or blowing them up.
(and i have the N64 Gamer guide to pokemon snap)

Don't take my word for it then. Here's the info at Gamefaqs:

"Pikachu on a Ball" - At the beginning of the level, take a picture of Pikachu. He will run off. Now take another shot of him. When the Electrode rolls near him, he will get on it.

When you see a Staryu, get a picture of it. Then it will move around you in a circle. Then when you reach the whirlpool, Staryu will get sucked into it. And Starmie will come out. Get the picture as soon as you can because it won't be there for long.

To see Dugtrio, keep taking pictures of Diglett. Each time you do, Pikachu will move to where Diglett will come out. Keep repeating this until Dugtrio appears.

Other faqs confirm this. Apparently you've been missing out, squall_leonhart. ¬_¬

if it isn't working then your obviously not doing something right, the shots in question worked perfectly for me.

Mate, how hard can it be to take a photograph of a Pikachu standing TWO FEET away from you? I'm telling you, there's something wrong with these photo-related events and it ain't me. Another thing: the red dot doesn't appear on the camera lens whenever I zoom in on a pokémon. Does that have anything to do with it?

I'm referring to the Pikachu at the beginning of the Tunnel map. But it's the same with every photo-related event everywhere. I can't get Muk to appear because it requires photographing Grimer. I can't get a close shot of Lapras because it requires photographing them at sea. This can't be just a coincidence.

BTW, how did the shots work perfectly for you when you just said that you've never encountered photo-related events? You're contradicting yourself.

i can confirm that the pointer no longer goes red when the pokemon is in the target. and picture activated even'ts aren't working.

At least we're in agreement now. How would I fix something like that? I don't think the RDB has anything to do with it, since that's just a rom list for the emulator.

Far from it. the RDB contains specific settings for each supported game. Tweaking these settings affects the affects the game, for better or worse. However, with the latest update the optimal settings have alredy been set for most games.

Hmm, it hasn't really helped me, though. There must be something I'm missing. Is there any other configuration in the graphics settings other than copying the framebuffer to the RDRAM that might fix this?

its not a graphic setting thats the problem, Rdram only displays backbuffer textures, this seems more like either a Emulator or RDB issue.

kind of like the original problem with the game (not being able to move the camera in the 1st level)

squall_leonhart, was there a time when the photo-related events DID work? If so, what RDB version did you use? It seems strange that the latest version wouldn't have the correct settings.

they worked in PJ64 1.5 but in that version, the controls on the 1st level didn't work and you couldn't choose pictures to show off after each level.

So what did 1.5 have that was removed from 1.6? You can't experience the full game this way. Any ideas how to incorporate the older version's photo-related compatibility in the current version?
