I apologize in advance if this has already been asked or if its the wrong place to get an answer. I have made my xbox controller s to plug into the usb drive. I have installed XBCD. I dont know where to go from there. I cant figure out how to configure the controller. Is there a different driver I should use? or is XBCD ok? I have searched multiple websites in search for my answer and have found none.

TIA,

Does the controller show up in the 'Game controllers' in the control panel?
If so, select the n-rage plug-in in pj64. Then configure the input plug-in and select the controller in the n-rage plugin (IIRC it's the 2nd tab and there's a listbox on the right). You can also select rumble support in the 2nd or 3rd tab.
Also I'd set the deadzone to 0% and range max.

it does not show up in game controllers under the control panel. I will work on getting it to show up and try it then.

What kind of usb device do you use? If you converted the cable to USB you should only need to install the XBCD driver *first*. Then reboot and plug it in (don't do it the other way).

If you have a (xbox joy) box you also need to install the driver for that first.

Do you see any messages that any new hardware was found? You could check the hardware device manager for errors.
