something new to emulation64.com

I just joined #emulation64 (on Efnet, our official IRC channel). The topic surprised me...it was a link to a website, I clicked on it.

Wow! An Xbox related article featured as a #emulation64 topic. This particular one relating to a legal way to get linux on the xbox, with a $$ incentive involved, a true M$ way of doing things. At any rate this post has been changed somewhat from it's original wording, but the message is simple, more xbox news might be coming in the future. (not a full section or anything, xbox will be covered the same as PS2, DC, and GBA)

Looks neat, and when it all comes around I'm probaly picking up a XBOX in a year or so... It seems it has great potential, although not games wize but emulation wise...

j/k ^_^

But I still hate xbox :nuke:

And what do you have to back that up? Are you just trying to be a follower of the MS stereotypes? If you haven't played it, don't say anything. I honestly think it has a pretty succesful line-up of titles.

Good to have a new section here @ emu64. :)

But it's a bit vague, what do you mean by "officially supports Xbox"? I assume that you'll follow the amateur/open source software developpement on Xbox, right?

At least add for gamecube and ps2 if that's the case.

We already support PS2 emus, and we post news about them...GC emu support isn't necessery as it doesn't exist...and you seriously think we wouldn't support GC emus if they existed? The GC is the console after N64 after all...

well sure if you want to post emu news in general that's fine, infact I encourage it. But an actuall xbox section? First off, it'd be more logical to change the name of the site since your planning on shifting it from nintendo64 to now both n64 and xbox.

Secondly, emus for xbox have been removed from zophar's due to legal reasons, it's a butchered section to say the least, will you do the same? Or legal issues don't present a problem for you in providing full coverage in xbox emulation.

Nintendo is a pain in itself, but to include microsoft? That's like taking the two most difficult paths in a maze on purpose. Sure that's a bad analogy, but I hope you understand what I mean.

My opinion is that I prefer a site concentrated on n64 emulation news, files, ect. since n64 emulation hasn't fully achieved the compatibility and user friendlyness as most of the older generation console emus have done. But I also wish you luck on this new endever for emulation64.

What a seriously stupid thing to do. Chances of Martin letting it go though: next to nil.

It was _me_ who set the topic, but if Emu64 covers everything in the topic, then Emu64 is a mulit-sexual pr0n site to boot ! Do I seen www.emulation64.com/pr0n anywhere ?!?!?! NO ! (I checked)

Redah is deleting the directory now, so hopefully that is the end of it :term:

I have reworded the news. I did not intend to imply that xbox will be merged into the site dramatically. While I think we should certainly cover news on it because as some of you suggested, and as some might even know xbox system emulation is in existence (it is called CXBX).

As far as zophar's domain having to pull emulators, we will not do that. At the current time the author of CXBX is working on adding input support to OpenXDK, a way to develop legal but functional xbox demos, games, and emulators.

Like Dreamcast, we will post news about the few but existant xbox system emulators, and the legally developed emulators that you run on the xbox (currently there are 3, btw)

I hope this clears up some confusion. lastly, the coming soon webpage was vastly mis-understood. That webpage will not get any more complicated then it is. infact, it may get less complicated, in that in the future it will not exist at all.
It was just an effort by me to imply a news article into 2 words and a picture.

As for the made on a mac logo...I've got a iBook (as you can see from my signature)

one more thing..to dixon: while I realize that the topic does sometimes sway from content that would not be on the site, in this case it was not, and actually, I did not plan to announce this as soon as I did, I was going to wait till a relases of OpenXDK or CXBX, or something else that we would post news on, but when I saw the topic, I thought..hmm...I can use that.

I found the made on a mac logo kinda Ironic ;)

BTW,
from Slashot:

The Neo Project has added "The Xbox Public Key Challenge" to it's distributed computing client.

They want to find th 2048bit !! private key that Microsoft uses to sign the Xbox binaries, which would allow to sign homebrew software and run it without a mod chip. 2^2048 ~=3*10^600 possible keys.

http://theneoproject.com/

But since the site has been slashdotted, it's currently unavailable.

At any rate, this is all very very good information. It is clear now that Xbox will only be covered like GBA and PS2. The question is what exactly. My intitial intention was to cover emulation related stuff (legal stuff only).

The Neo project is great, but until it succeeds and benefits emulation both of the xbox and on the xbox, is it worth mentioning on an emulation site?
(btw, if you want join the team: emulation64.com)

I say no, but your opionion is welcome.
