Direct3D error Graphics error? Need Help

Allright, first off I have tried many things, looked at many similar posts, still have the same problem with PJ64 (and 1964 BTW). When I load PJ64 I recive the following error

Code:
Direct3D failed to initalize
Error code: 8876017C
D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY

This error is from the default plugin Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 If I change that plugin to the second default plugin (Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2) I recieve error

Code:
Direct3D failed to initalize your HAL device
make sure you have a properly configured
3D graphics card compatible with Direct3D 6.0

Now, the things I have tried:

Running the program "dxdiag". It shows that all tests are running correctly. I did all of them, even the tests for sound. It seems that my DirectX9 is fine.

Updating the video card driver. This took a while to find, but I got a reasonable, certified one off the internet. Dosen't seem like this is the problem.

Getting a different graphics plugin for PJ64. Nope. Just comes up with a diffrerent error message.

Looking at the overall specs of my graphics card and system. I Don't think this is the problem. My system specs should meet the requirements to run PJ64. (keep reading for a list of my system specs)

Other things you should know:

I have gotten PJ64 to work before just fine before, graphics and all, on this same machine, and with no problems. Then I reinstalled the OS, and I started having these problems. So, the purpose of me saying this is, that I have gotten this to work before just fine, meaning that I don't think that this is a problem with the system specs or the graphics card. However, let me say that uninstalling the OS was not a smart move, on my part.

Now, the system specs:

Toshiba Laptop, running windows 2K
Intel pentium 3 processor, 750 mhz
327 MB RAM total, 1 256 ram module, plus 32 MB built in
40 GB hard drive
Trident Video accelerator Cyberblade e4-128 (not sure how much video ram)

Now then, please help me! I would like to get back to using PJ64, ASAP. Thank you again for reading through all this, and thank you in advance for helping me. Until then I'll be using PJ64 on another computer. Thank you.

It probably won't work at all that card is really low end according to my research and you processor isn't fast enough to try software hardware emution(the graphic card is emulation also). According to my research it only has 4 mb of vram.

OK, so it turns out that changing the desktop resolution to 16 bit fixed the problem. I never ever would have figured that one out, or even thought that it would cause such a problem. One thing I learned though, my graphics card on this thing is terrible! I remember that when I last used PJ64 on this computer (before I reinstalled windows) that I only tried 2 games (I only had a handful of roms at the time). They worked fine and had few errors. Now that I have a bunch more roms, I tried a few more games that I didn't have previously. My results were, SSB was barely playable, being that it replaced the characters with white outlines, zelda OOT didnt even start, and mario tenis had the most distracting flickering screen all throughout the game...
Dang, I can't believe my graphics card is this bad...
I'd post a screenshot to show everyone how bad it looks, however it fails when trying to take one. Oh well thanks for the help.
