Can someone help me ref P64 and Sidewinder Gamepad?

I ve got P64 running roms beautifully. But it wont detect my MS Sidewinder pad for some reason (it is installed correctly) so i cannot play anything - WTF am i doing wrong?? - heeeelp!

Would appreciate any pointers from someone in the know

Have you selected your pad from the drop down menu? Like this:

The only drop down i get is options, configure controller plug in, and sidewinder is selected
