Gaze (in dismay or what have you) at this web page. It basically uses a FPGA to create the original hardware of the Entex' adventure vision system (it uses an 8048 processor WOW I had to port stuff from that beast before it was a big pain).
There are numerous other systems emulated on the page take a look at the side bar and browse of Platforms.
It uses some of the vhdl cores from opencores.org
